- Her real name was Catherine, and her nickname was Kit. She had 4 boys and 3 girls. Kit left home when she was 23. She moved to Scotland, near Gerald and Sheila. She liked it there, but there was not enough to do for a single lady. She moved down to London. She used to cycle in the dark (when there was a blackout) around London to go to the dances. She had a childhood sweetheart, but he went off to war and she did not hear from him for a year. In the meantime she married Timmy. Then her sweetheart returned - he had been a prisoner of war.
Kit lived with Aunt Sal for 5-6 years while she was going to school.
Kit and Timmy came back to Lohar, where Timmy's parents had the family farm. It is high on a hill overlooking the water. It is a beautiful, but rugged spot. They had small fields and a few animals. They cut the turf in a turf field to use in their stove.
They raised their family there, as all but the oldest child, Patrick, were born there. Patrick was born in London. Kit had a hard life, getting her first indoor bathroom after all her children were grown. With 7 children, she was always busy. She was devout, going to the church on the hill above her home.
She was an excellent cook, often making cockle chowder, roast lamb, potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and cream sauce, trifle, and apple pie for visitors. She would cook over the stove in the living room, as well as in the kitchen. She was gay, and very full of life. She loved a good laugh. She made everyone feel comfortable in her home.
She died at home after a short illness of liver cancer, brought on by breast cancer.
