- He emigrated to the US from Queenstown, Ireland, on September 30, 1905 on the vessel Cymric. He arrived in Boston and settled in Charlestown where he was employed as a boilermaker by the Boston and Maine Railroad. The railroad shifted its operations from Charlestown to Keene NH, and on June 20, 1911 Jerome, Hannah, and their two sons moved to Keene.
After leaving his employment with the railroad, Jerome worked as a carder for the Faulkner and Colony Mills, who were manufacturers of woolen cloth. The family lived in a company-owned house.
In 1923 they bought a 10 acre farm in North Swanzey (then called Spragueville), NH, on Wilson Pond. Jerome raised vegetables and strawberries in his spare time, which the children sold from a roadside stand and from a boat to the cottagers around the pond. Jerome was fond of flowers and he grew many varieties of roses and other flowers and shrubs.
When the Dillant-Hopkins Airport was being built in North Swanzey in 1943 the family home was sold, and the house was moved a few hundred yards north to a location on Houghton Point on Wilson Pond where it was still standing in 1980, then a two-apartment dwelling.
Jerome and Hannah are buried in the family lot in St. Joseph Cemetery in Keene. They had seven children.
